barack obama history background
Why is the United States in reference to Barack Obama as African American?

Why is it that every news story on TV, and each item I read referred to Barack Obama as African American? Is it that if some percentage of its racial history is of African descent, then, is African American? His mother was white, English and Irish decent. Maybe just do not understand the definition of the African American. I agree, that is part African American … but if his mother is so thoroughly "white" is really what would be considered African American? Do not get me wrong, I believe that racial diversity is a wonderful thing. I am confused as to how they have labeled Barack Obama as African American, when he could also be labeled as Irish American or Caucasian?

Because if Barack "keeper" Obama called himself and Caucasian / white people call him crazy. When people see it (without knowing its origin) to see a black man. People who are half black, have never been accepted as white, and when biracial people born just considered black. We are only now reaching a point where people who are biracial even recognize as biracial instead of black (on government forms and such). Born in a time when they were white or black – and definitely was not white, so by default, there was only black.
